How To Pick The Best Cannabis Breeder
The quality of a breeder depends on the person looking to grow the seeds. For some, it’s a breeder that provides affordable, stable results that can be run outdoors in large populations without much variation between plants. For others, a good breeder
For us here at Biltong and Budz, the most important part of a good breeder is someone who is able to produce seeds that give reliable, quality results. Integrity within the seed game is big to us, so we always favour breeders working with authentic genetics and doing their own testing prior to release.
We only stock breeders we can stand by, but there are some favourites that tend to result in praise from customers and tend to be some of our best sellers:

While some breeders have a vertical business model where they also act as a seedbank, the primary difference between the two is that breeders will often rely on other retailers to sell their seeds, rather than focusing on direct-to-consumer sales.
We here at B&B for instance, are a seedbank, as we retailer the work purchased from breeders, helping them expand their market, and allowing them to focus on what they’re good at – making seeds.
Most growers won’t notice an immediate difference when growing local or international seeds, assuming they’ve picked local breeders that aligns with what they want.
THC Tribe run through large populations of very expensive seeds, pheno hunting for selections that can carry the same premium expressions found in expensive U.S imports.
The one area where imported genetics will often be superior, is when provenance and elite genetics are at play. For example, Dutch breeders are far more likely to be working with original Hazes, while Americans have the benefit of having more direct access to elite cuts like OG Kush, Chem, Diesel, Girl Scout Cookies and the other hundred+ select cuts that have gained a reputation in recent years.
Breeders set their own prices, often based on the type of breeding they’re doing and the costs involved in their operations. While not always true, there is often an equivalency between quality and how expensive the seeds are.
Large scale outdoor or greenhouse breeding projects will often result in lower retail prices than small batch craft breeders who may also have spent several thousand dollars on the elite cut used to make his crosses.
You’ll also notice some budget seed varieties, such as those offered through our Biltong and Budz range. These are usually white label seeds, purchased from trusted wholesale breeders whose focus is affordability.
The truth is that it’s not always obvious, especially with some breeders establishing offices in other countries.
We’ve added flags to the images of our breeder categories to make it easy for you to see which location the breeder is from. This helps to establish an idea of what kind of genetics they’re likely to be working with.
